Crete and its costume
For this period, a Cretan costume was created inspired by the Snake Goddess, originating from the Palace of Knossos around 1600 B.C. With the discovery of this palace, a great deal of information about clothing from the second millennium of this civilization was revealed. We explored all of this in the seminar “The Awakening of Man to Civilization: Furniture, Textiles and Clothing.” At ÁBBATTE, in order to illustrate the different periods covered in our seminars, scaled costumes (1:2) have been created for each era. The Cretan costume features a short jacket made from linen woven at ÁBBATTE and a sash...
Eclectic style
ÁBBATTE is our artisanal brand that creates handmade textiles in the Cistercian abbey of Santa María de la Sierra, in Castilla. All pieces are made from high-quality natural fibers, with designs based on the structural effects of the materials. Each piece is woven on manual looms, slowly and with meticulous attention to detail by a team of weavers who create artistic objects for everyday life. First, samples are developed during the design phase; then the warp is prepared and set on the loom. Once woven, the pieces are hand-washed and finished. The result is exquisite items like the table linen...
From garage to home – Japanese panels in silk

The light filtered through the silk and the soothing decor turn the room into a haven of peace, an escape without the need to travel. This former Madrid garage, now converted into a residence, has become a perfect space to disconnect from the city’s...
Wabi Sabi – The praise of simplicity
At ÁBBATTE, we craft pieces that celebrate the subtle, the ephemeral, and the suggestive; qualities that may be invisible at first glance. It's an aesthetic sensibility that finds a melancholic beauty in the everyday. Wabi-sabi is the Eastern counterpart of minimalism, deeply rooted in nature. This Japanese concept refers to the ability to find beauty in imperfection. Originating in Buddhist practice, wabi-sabi teaches that true liberation doesn’t come from logical or intellectual knowledge alone, but from a genuine and internal emotional understanding; one that is reflected in how we live and act. Wabi suggests rustic simplicity,...
