From garage to home – Japanese panels in silk

This is our first project using Japanese panels crafted from a special type of silk. This material allows images to pass through the fabric, capturing the subtlety of its texture and sheen.
This silk, the main decorative element of the space, brings a sense of calm and serenity to a home in the center of Madrid. The light filtered through the silk and the soothing decor turn the room into a haven of peace, an escape without the need to travel.
This former Madrid garage, now converted into a residence, has become a perfect space to disconnect from the city’s fast pace and connect with the stillness of nature, thanks to its botanical ambiance. The green hue of the polished concrete and the garden glimpsed through the fabric evoke nature far removed from the heart of a bustling city.
When natural silk thread is extracted from the cocoon, it consists of two protein filaments coated in a waxy substance that is usually removed. In this case, the coating has been left intact, giving the silk a unique feel and volume.
ÁBBATTE creates pieces from this fiber that behave in a distinctive way. The texture is soft and dry to the touch, while visually it is sheer with a subdued sheen.
It is a very special fiber, light and voluminous, which has also been used in garments on other occasions.
The serene atmosphere that fills the entire home is a result of the exquisite subtlety of this silk.
