The process
At ÁBBATTE, we create handcrafted textile pieces that inspire serenity and well-being, inviting the senses to appreciate subtlety. We work exclusively with high-quality natural fibres and dyes, using a process that demands great skill and precision.
Each piece is woven by local artisans in Segovia on manual looms. The warp is first prepared, a series of parallel, taut threads that form the foundation of the fabric. The weft is then interlaced across the warp. Once the fabric is complete, each piece is hand-finished with needle and thread. Finally, it is washed, allowing the fibres to relax and expand.
In one of our wooden cabins, yarns are dyed using pigments derived solely from plants or insects. This is a process that sits somewhere between the magical and the scientific, producing deep, nuanced, and custom-made colours. The dyeing process involves several steps: scouring to cleanse the fibre, mordanting to fix the dye, and the dye bath itself, in which pigment is applied to the threads at a specific temperature.
ÁBBATTE’s creations are made to last more than a lifetime, to be passed on, to change as we do. They are meant to become treasured objects, worthy of being part of our shared stories, silent witnesses to the lives we live.
