Each day, we’re reminded how fortunate we are that ÁBBATTE’s workshops inhabit the space of the old monastery of Santa María...
One spring day, our skeins of wool hung in the breeze on the porch of our dyeing cabin, drying in the open air. We had dyed them in shades of red using our emblematic plant, Rubia tinctorum, and now they formed soft bands of colour, like a small, shifting landscape. That day, Marta, the dyer, discovered a small mystery: the skeins were torn and frayed.
There are discoveries that do not arrive through thought, but through life itself. One believes to have made a practical decision (to plant, to design, to arrange…) only to find, with time, that what seemed improvised was in fact responding to something that preceded us: the “spirit of the place”.
We present SEDA, a lamp created in collaboration with the design and architecture studio MAYICE. A piece that enhances both the spaces it illuminates and those it leaves in shadow.
The short days of winter have always seemed to me deeply inspiring, where the dim light offers moments of reflection and tranquillity. These days, the lack of brightness helps us contemplate, rather than merely see. Sometimes a glimpse says more than what meets the eye.
Nature offers us far more than we often realise. This recurring reflection at ÁBBATTE is the foundation of a new piece we're thrilled to unveil today: a collaboration with the artisanal fashion brand, ALETHEIA.
