Let’s go on a picnic!
We enter a new season with a touch of melancholy as we leave summer behind, a time when we likely shared joyful moments with family and friends. But that doesn’t have to end. We can still enjoy special gatherings with them in unique, open-air settings.
In this Vogue photo, a perfect countryside tea setting is recreated, featuring one of our hand-loomed cushions, made of cherry-colored linen with decorative diagonal stitching, a one-of-a-kind piece from our collection.
At ÁBBATTE, we support and promote the revival of the local textile tradition of the Sierra de Guadarrama, helping to preserve the region’s heritage while safeguarding ancient techniques and crafts.
Going on a picnic is, without a doubt, a wonderful way to connect with nature, our most precious treasure. The idealised dream of the ÁBBATTE community is to live a simpler life, more in harmony with the natural world. Years ago, most of us left forests and countryside behind to live in cities, and now we feel the need to reconnect with that natural environment. Many people long to find that small corner of the world where they can rediscover their essence and inner calm.
One of the core goals of ÁBBATTE is to help preserve and highlight the value of Segovia’s textile tradition, centred around the Cistercian Monastery of Santa María de la Sierra, where the ancient craft of hand weaving is still practised.
The firm involves local weavers, trained in manual weaving, which not only preserves the craft but also contributes to the local economy by offering a contemporary perspective on traditional artistry.
The creation of a botanical garden of dye plants is a tribute to nature itself.
